Upcoming Events
Thursday: Marshall Speaker Event - Imran Rasul!
When: 30th Jan, 18:30-20:00
Where: Palmerston Room, St John’s College
A talk for all economists, proponents of equality and deep thinkers.
We are delighted to invite you all to our first Speaker Event of 2025 next Thursday: ‘Economic opportunities by race and ethnicity in the UK’ given by Professor Imran Rasul.
🌟 What will the talk be about?
Should we have equality of opportunity or equality of outcome? When purposefully reversing inequality, do we not just recreate it but towards other groups? Professor Rasul has been a long time advocate of the fact that within the field of economics there has been significantly less research on inequality than fields such as sociology or political science. This coming Thursday, he will be sharing with us valuable insights into what racial and ethnic inequality looks like within the UK’s opportunities and economy.
🌟 Who is Imran Rasul?
Imran Rasul is Professor of Economics at UCL. He will serve as President of the Royal Economic Society in 2025 and President of the European Economic Association in 2026. He is the Director of the ESRC Institute for the Microeconomic Analysis of Public Policy at the Institute for Fiscal Studies (the UK’s largest funder of economic, social, behavioural and human data science) and is also the Co-President at the Bureau for Research and Economic Analysis of Development.
Inequality is without a doubt one of the major social problems that our generation will have to deal with. If you are interested in understanding how economic opportunities vary, what inequality truly looks like and what scientific research indicates we should do about it within today’s UK, we look forward to sharing your company on Thursday evening.
We cannot wait to see you there, The Marshall Society 🌟
