Save the Date: Oil and Stock Market Seminar!

You are warmly invited to a seminar on Stock-Oil Comovement: A Present-Value Approach, 25th April, from 5:45 pm to 7:15 pm in the Harrods Room, Emmanuel College.

The seminar will examine the return correlation between U.S. stocks and oil, focusing on the post-2008 shift in the correlation between their cash flow news. This structural change, partly driven by increased U.S. oil production, suggests that positive oil demand shocks now support both markets, offering new insights into equity-commodity relationships and the implications for portfolio diversification.

Guest Speaker: Prof Leopold Sögner obtained his doctoral degree from the Vienna University of Economics and Business. He joined the Institute for Advanced Studies in 2008 from the Vienna University of Technology and has served as director of graduate studies, head of the research group Financial Markets and Econometrics, and is currently head of the research group Business Cycles, Growth and Public Finances. In 2018 he was guest professor at NYU Abu Dhabi. Since 2010 he has been faculty member at the Vienna Graduate School of Finance and has been principal investigator in research several grants. His research interests are asset pricing and applied econometrics. His work has been published in journals such as the Journal of Economic Dynamics and Control, Annals of the Institute of Statistical Mathematics, Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, Journal of Applied Probability, and Econometric Reviews.
